JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Purchaser is responsible for the pre-award and post-award management of supply categories assigned to them. He/She will work closely with LMI’s integrated team (Engineering, Production Control, QA) to ensure suppliers are selected and managed in accordance with LMI’s policies/processes and that the supply chain is established and managed in a manner that will meet the current and future demand of LMI’s customers. Key responsibilities include: issuance of RFx documents, negotiation of supply contracts, issuance and maintenance of purchase orders, expediting purchase orders, regular use of ERP system, vendor management and reporting of KPIs.

The Senior Purchaser reports to the Manager, purchasing and has no direct reports however, this position may be required to provide guidance and mentorship to less senior members of the Purchasing team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the sourcing, bid evaluation, selection, procurement and delivery of materials and services required for the production of LMI’s products.
  • Negotiates pricing, delivery requirements and quantities with suppliers and ensures level of inventory is optimized.
  • Monitors goods delivery ensuring they are provided on time in accordance with the purchase order terms and conditions
  • Expedite supplier deliveries as required to support the manufacturing schedule.
  • Act as liaison between Suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure technical requirements, schedules and cost targets are fully achieved.
  • Records and analyses suppliers KPIs and updates management with supplier’s performance analysis.
  • Manages non-conforming materials following Material Review Board (MRB) meetings and works with suppliers to identify and eliminate quality issues.
  • Maintains optimal stock levels by managing inventory levels and maintaining commercial data in LMI’s ERP system (i.e. price, lead-time, safety stock etc.).
  • Monitors and responds in a timely manner to all issues and purchase requisitions.
  • Ensures that technical documentation, product configuration and specification provided to suppliers are complete, accurate and up-to date.
  • Promptly notifies suppliers of changes introduced by Engineering Change Orders (ECO).
  • Proactively contributes to and implements continuous improvement initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Strong procurement skill set/knowledge of competitive bid processes.
  • Experience working from bills of material in a manufacturing/MRP-system driven environment.
  • Previous experience in the acquisition of raw materials, fabricated materials, build-to-specification materials and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Strong customer service focus and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced level computer skills (Word/Excel).
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary Technical or Business diploma or degree. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of sourcing, bid evaluation, negotiation and execution of various types of purchase agreements as part of a purchasing organization, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Professional certification or training through an accredited procurement society such as the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) or American Purchasing Society or The Association for Operations Management (APICS) CPIM program is preferred.
