Reporting to the Engineering Manager the Manufacturing Engineer drives continuous improvement activities for LMI’s 3D sensor production.  The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, documenting, and optimizing new and existing processes within all areas of manufacturing.  They will work closely with the quality group to evaluate new and existing suppliers and will respond quickly to issues encountered in production to prevent delays and maintain LMI’s high quality standard.  In addition the Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with production staff and R&D Engineers to determine the most efficient, cost effective, and safe methods for manufacturing LMI’s 3D sensors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in regular design reviews and drives design for manufacture (DFM) activities.

  • Develop and maintain production lines; specifying tools and equipment.

  • Collect and respond to feedback from production staff to continuously optimize ergonomics, working conditions, and efficiency.

  • Collect and analyze performance metrics for all processes to drive continuous improvement activities and Kaizen.

  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements

  • Designs manufacturing equipment with a focus on capacity, automation, and preventative maintenance.

  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards

  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions

  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes

  • Uses standard processes (8D, FMEA) to solve manufacturing problems.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering

  • 7+ years experience in a similar role in a high tech manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing (green belt prefered)

  • Experience with ERP and PLM systems.

  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (Solidworks)

  • Understanding of optical modeling, electronic schematics, software operational modes, calibration table design and operation, laser operation, lenses, bandpass filters, and 3D coordinate systems

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Solid interpersonal skills are required to function appropriately in a team environment

  • Familiar with regulatory standards such as IP, UL, CE, IEC/FDA laser classifications
